Charities
The headline charities for the Anglesey Festival of Running will be working really hard with us in the lead up to the event, and on the day, to raise awareness and money for a range of fantastic causes. The charities will be showcased here and we would encourage anyone who is not already running for charity to consider getting sponsorship for one of these fantastic causes. You're putting in the effort anyway, why not make it for a good cause too!
We are really pleased to announce the involvement of the first of our three headline charities for the 2010 Anglesey Festival of Running!
DebRA is the only charity in the UK working on behalf of people living with the genetic condition EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa).
To find out more about this condition and what it can mean to the life of a child who has to endure hours of pain every day and whose skin will blister from a simple hug or a cuddle.
DebRA will be bringing many of their own runners to the event including Ian Lang from Wales Tonight, Jaiden Michael from Big Brother and local man Peter Davey, whose son Tie suffers from EB. Peter will be running in the London and Anglesey Marathons this year and would love your support on the day. If you've decided to run but haven't decided on a charity to run for, then please click on their logo to visit the website and consider running for them in this years' Anglesey Festival of Running. For further information on DebRA or EB or how you can help please get in touch with Tony Eckersall on 0161-286-5340 or email him tony.eckersall@ntlworld.com
We are so pleased to welcome shelterBOX on board as our second headline charity. ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that delivers
emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster
worldwide. ShelterBOX has been providing critical relief for over a decade and has been hitting the headlines recently with its invaluable support to victims of the earthquakes in Haiti and Western China. ShelterBOX relies entirely on donations to continue its lifesaving work so please consider getting sponsorship on their behalf for your efforts in this years' Anglesey Festival of Running. There will be a ShelterBOX team on site on the day to demonstrate the boxes as well as a very brave team of volunteers pulling a ShelterBOX around the marathon course.....if you pass them be sure to give them a shout of support!! Those boxes are not light!
Our third headline charity will be organising their memory walk on Anglesey which will coincide with the marathon event. More details on how to take part will appear here and on our news pages shortly! Alzheimer's
Society is a membership organisation, which
works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Many of their 25,000 members have personal
experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or people with
dementia themselves, and their experiences help to inform their work. Alzheimer's Society had over 300 runners in the London Marathon this year, raising over £300,000 for the charity. We'd like the Anglesey Festival of Running to play its part in making a difference to the lives of sufferers, their carers and families.
